Lange illustratiedag.

not my country, but FOR. FUCKS. SAKE.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is poised to put in place new barriers to accessing common forms of contraception like birth control pills, emergency contraception and IUDs by labeling them "abortion." These proposed regulations set to be released next week will allow healthcare providers to refuse to provide contraception to women who need it.

These rules would even interfere with New York State law that ensures survivors of sexual assault and rape receive emergency contraception in hospital emergency rooms.

The article is about a 'diabetes burnout' I had the idea of a dog you leave behind when u've had enough of it. It's going to be 3 illustrations. First you see how annoying it is and that it really bothers you to be sick, then you can't deal with it anymore and neglect it. The last one I'm still making; the owner feeds his dog, accepts he diabetes again.

Weeds

I never really have celebrity crushes (If I would say what came closest to a crush it would be 'Nate' from 6fu, but quite soon I disliked his part and in Dirty sexy money I thought he played a rather 'flat' character...oh and let's not foget the Fligh of the conchords guys) Never have real heroes or role models and don't understand why people do most of the times. But now I have 2 small crushes, let's see how they develop hahaha.

In Weeds Justin Kirk Appears, whom I already knew from Angels in America where I loved his bizarre role (also as a transvestite). In weeds he plays this really annoying, controversial, but very charming brother in law and makes sure there will be a lot of *bleeps* on American tv. Later on (not there yet, but did some youtubing) Zooey Deschanel joins Weeds; she is that blue eyed girl from Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy and in Weeds she plays a great part as his crazy yoga girlfriend. In real life it seems she also sings in a folk band. Actually for me the show really starts and gets to the quality level of Six feet under when Justin Kirk arrives, cos it gets more raw and funny. By the way also one of the Olsen twins will be appearing later on so it seems..omg...
Here a scene from Weeds about the American Army and their view on the war with Iraq (very hilarious. Please do watch esp. second half!)

I'm not going to Iraq to fight in some bullshit war about oil  money
"Bullshit war, what about 9/11, didn't Iran hide the terrorists?" We're fighting a war in Iraq, Doug, and neither country did have anything to do with 9/11. "Well they both have sand..."

Which one would you like to live in?

My day with Amy and Grace is over-- phew! Now it's time for dinner. Tonight I'm making trout, asparagus, and herbed red potatoes. I'll probably have a few raw veggies on the side too, as I usually do. I'm not sure if I want to do a simple mix of olive oil, salt, and pepper on the asparagus or if I want to try something more luxurious (and fattening). I wish I had some wine to go with my meal, but sadly I do not! Well, I'm absolutely famished, so I must away!

note to self...

Vrijdag: Def Americans (dit keer bewust) gezien in The Rambler. Een goeie Johnny Cash tributeband. Fijne sfeer.
Geen foto's.

Zondag: The Rock-a-bops uit Zweden gezien in The Rambler. Overtuigende eind jaren 50 rock'n'roll. Helaas zonder contrabas.

gerbera daisy!

a--- and i had dinner downtown tonight and ducked into the tiffany & co. store for the heck of it. so many sparklies! i felt the compulsion to belt out henry mancini's "moon river," but restrained myself.

also worth mentioning, my co-worker gave me amphigorey again which she found outside of her building with the cover torn and barely read. she expertly glued the cover back on and told me that she had read it all and it was going in the recycling if i didn't take it. thanks c------!

Charlie Mitchell

Afgelopen zondag in RoTown: Charly Dée plays Joni Mitchell

edit: Ah ik weet het nu: The Dry Cleaner From Des Moines!

Enfin, mooi dus.

weekend in pictures

  • Jul. 21st, 2008 at 12:45 PM
i don't know where the month of july has gone, but so far it has been spent in the most enjoyable of ways with friends and loved ones. this weekend was no exception.

on friday, a--- came over to my house and gave me my birthday present. i think i actually squealed with joy when i opened it:

after only a month, he knows my tastes very well. he also told me to let him know when i ran out of ink and he would procure more for me. (he knows how to melt my heart). now i need to write a story with it in my green leatherbound journal from salmagundi.

after dinner, we went to [info]itatakimasu's gig on commercial drive. it was at a little coffee shop which made it very intimate and interactive. she performed with two other artists and each were given a good amount of time to play. at one point, one of the singers sang iron & wine's cover of "such great heights" and we all sang along. at another time we were treated to some hilarious kazoo solos.

here is [info]itatakimasu performing "home" (one of my favourite songs of hers):

i look horrible in this picture, but i love his smile. )

the next day i got together with a couple of my former co-workers and we walked around the deas island regional park and caught up on each other's lives (there's a lot to talk about after six months).

i'm still glad i'm not with the drug dealers any more. (i reiterate, most of the people were great, but wow, i sure got lucky with the timing)

then some of my friends came over for a not-birthday movie night. [info]cliomuse made an amazing key lime pie for us all to consume and gave me a new game to try out and [info]fizz_bubbles brought me flowers (my third this year! i don't think i've ever received so many flowers in such a short period of time :)

then on sunday my sister, her friend and i went on an extemporaneous shopping trip for unmentionables. not pictured here.
